Kalonian Hydra

From Kalonia, the Hydra Comes!

Magic: The Gathering — After rotation, I wasn't ready to give up on G/W. However, I wasn't entirely sold on the tap-out variety that was basically lions, elephants, and wurms, even if you were tapping out at the end of your opponents turns. Yes, the token-based approach with Rootborn Defenses is cute, but if I can ramp in to Kalonian Hydra and my opponent doesn't have an answer, then I will probably win. Not too many 5cc cards can say that... in fact, it's so good I would play it if it cost 6. Which is why I came packing God's Willing.

Although the amount of removal out there is pretty scary, most of it besides the Verdict is spot removal. And after playing Ranger's Guile quite a bit pre-rotation, I knew how much of a blowout a 1-mana "counterspell" can be. Also, I was a huge fan of our new favorite wall, the Sylvan Caryatid. I knew there would be a number of 2-power red decks as well as G/W "weenie" decks with 8 copies of 2/1's. Caryatid buys me time and ramps, too, vs both of these decks.

Ajani + Hydra is *cough* pretty good.

With my over-the-top strategy, I managed to win FNM with my only loss pre-top 8 going to a very solid, very straightforward U/W deck. So here's the updated list:
